Good afternoon all,
We start with the words of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji expressed deep sorrow, calling Chan Santokhi a dear friend and a respected leader. He said that his passing is an irreparable loss not only to Suriname, but also to the global Indian diaspora.
Anita Sewsahai Ji helped us invite Chan as our chief guest for Chai Pe Charcha. When we met him, we saw he was passionate about reducing crime and he brought economic stability.
During his lifetime:
- We saw that Chan prioritized service to the nation before personal life.
- Despite reaching the highest office, he remained approachable, humble, and grounded.
- He was among the modern presidents to take his oath on the Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit, symbolically highlighting his Indian heritage.
We should ensure there is a statue of him to honour his legacy and to show our next generation to lead with integrity, to serve with humility,
to honour your roots and to think globally.
We will miss his brilliant energy and compassion. Wishing strength to the people of Suriname and his family 🙏🙏
